অনুবাদঃ
১। যে যজ্ঞেঝ সোমরসের অভিষবার্থে স্থুলমুল প্রস্তর উন্নত করা হয়, হে ইন্দ্র! সে যজ্ঞে উলুখল দ্বারা অভিষুত সোমরস আপনার জেনে পান কর।
২। যে যজ্ঞে দুজঘনের ন্যায় অভিষব ফলকদ্বয় বিস্তুত হয়, হে ইন্দ্র! সে যজ্ঞে উলুখল দ্বারা অভিষূত সোমরস আপনার জেনে পান কর।
৩। যে যজ্ঞে নারী যজ্ঞশালায় প্রবেশ ও তথা হতে বহির্গমন অভ্যাস করে (১) হে ইন্দ্র সে যজ্ঞে উলুখল দ্বারা অভিষুত সোমরস আপনার জেনে পান কর।
৪। যে যজ্ঞে সংযমরুজুর ন্যায় রুজুদ্বারা মথনদন্ডকে বাধা যায়, হে ইন্দ্র! সে যজ্ঞে উলুখল দ্বারা অভিষুত সোমরস আপনার জেনে পান কর।
৫। হে উলুখল! যদিও তুমি গৃহে গৃহে ব্যবহৃত হও, তথাপি এ যজ্ঞে তুমি বিজয়ীদের দুন্দুভির ন্যায় প্রভুর ধ্বনিযুক্ত শব্দ কর।
৬। হে উলুখল রূপ বনস্পতি (২)! তোমার সম্মুখে বায়ু বইছে; অতএব হে উলুখল! ইন্দ্রের পানার্থে সোমরস অভিষব কর।
৭। হে অন্নপ্রদ যজ্ঞের উপকরণযুক্ত (৩) ! খাদ্য চবণকালে ইন্দ্রের অশ্বদ্বয় যেরূপ ধ্বনি করে, সেরূপ পৌঢ় ধ্বনিযুক্ত হয়ে তোমরা পুন:পুন: বিহার কর।
৮। হে দর্শনীয় বনস্পতিদ্বয়! দর্শনীয় অভিষব যন্ত্র দ্বারা তোমরা অদ্য ইন্দ্রের জন্য মধুর সোমরস প্রস্তুত কর।
৯। হে ঋত্বিক! অভিষব ফলকদ্বয় হতে অবশিষ্ট সোম উঠাও, পবিত্রে রাখ, গোচর্মে স্থাপন কর।
টীকাঃ
১। নারী অপচ্যবম, উপব্যবম চ শিক্ষতে মুলে এরূপ আছে। The scholiast explairs the terms Apachyava and Upachyava, going in the going out of the hall (Sala); but it would perhaps rather be moving up and down with reference to the action of the Pestle-Wilson.
২। উলূখল কাষ্ঠ নির্মিত, এ জন্য বনস্পতি শব্দের প্রয়োগ।
৩। মূলে আয়জী আছে। হে উলুখল মুসলে আয়জী সর্বতো যজ্ঞ সাধনে। সায়ণ।
HYMN XXVIII. Indra, Etc.
1 THERE where the broad-based stone raised on high to press the juices out,
O Indra, drink with eager thirst the droppings which the mortar sheds.
2 Where, like broad hips, to hold the juice the platters of the press are laid,
O Indra, drink with eager thirst the droppings which the mortar sheds.
3 There where the woman marks and leans the pestle’s constant rise and fall,
O Indra, drink with eager thirst the droppings which the mortar sheds.
4 Where, as with reins to guide a horse, they bind the churning-staff with cords,
O Indra, drink with eager thirst the droppings which the mortar sheds.
5 If of a truth in every house, O Mortar thou art set for work,
Here give thou forth thy clearest sound, loud as the drum of conquerors.
6 O Sovran of the Forest, as the wind blows soft in front of thee,
Mortar, for Indra press thou forth the Soma juice that he may drink.
7 Best strength-givers, ye stretch wide jaws, O Sacrificial Implements,
Like two bay horses champing herbs.
8 Ye Sovrans of the Forest, both swift, with swift pressers press to-day
Sweet Soma juice for Indra’s drink.
9 Take up in beakers what remains: the Soma on the filter pour,
and on the ox-hide set the dregs.
